Measles often begins with fever (over 101), cough, runny nose, and red eyes. After a few days of fever, a rash may appear, usually starting on the face and spreading downward. Under routine circumstances, the MMR vaccine is recommended at 12 months, with a second dose given starting at 4 years of age. If local measles activity increases, we will share any updated guidance in coordination with the local health department. If you’re concerned your child may have symptoms consistent with measles or has had a known exposure, please call our office. This allows our team to thoughtfully triage your child’s visit and help limit potential exposure to others.

Dr. Thomas Helms originally hails from Tucson, Arizona, but now considers himself to be an "adopted Midwesterner". He received his bachelor's degree from Ave Maria University in Florida before moving to the Midwest for medical school where he received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then moved to Nebraska where he completed his pediatric residency training through the combined program of University of Nebraska Medical Center, Creighton University, and Children's Nebraska in June of 2024.
