If all goes well, you don't need to supplement or pump.
But if you do, it will be difficult to remember the details of nursing, supplementing and pumping when you're so sleep deprived. Writing down activities helps your squad keep track of what's going on.

As low supply or poor milk removal improves, your baby will get more milk during STEP 1, so he'll take less and less supplements (STEP 2), and thus less pumping is needed (STEP 3).
If your baby continues to gain while getting less supplements, steps 2 & 3 will eventually go away!
Until then, it's very difficult to complete all 3 steps, every 3 hours, 24 / 7.
So, it's fine to skip breastfeeding once in a while, or skip pumping sometimes.
